You Actually READ This Stuff?
I was checking my site stats for this blog the other day. I was pleased to see that it is getting between 80-100 uniques a day. That’s not going to take over YAHOO or GOOGLE anytime soon, but still I was pleased.
I wasn’t pleased though when I started checking what pages my visitors were looking at.
On the particular day I was checking a total of seven visitors read the “About Me’ page on this blog. This was a problem since I hadn’t even put anything on that page. I just didn’t think it was important enough to make a priority.
I was wrong!
It seems that many of you want to know who it is you are dealing with. Is the person “legit”? Of good character? Those may be a few of the reasons this page was viewed 37 times that week. I’m not sure.
Needless to say I have updated this page and will add more in the future
I would be interested in hearing if you think the “About Page” is important on IM blogs. Post your comments below…

It’s funny you posted this Michael…I don’t think either of our blogs have an About Me page that has our info on it.
I need to change that!
On another note, you also reminded me that I should be paying more attention to site stats as well.
Thanks,
Scott Raven
A very interesting post and very relevant to my situation as well. I recently launched a new blog/website and made the exact same mistake you did. I left the default wordpress about me page live and found that people were actually going there.
I have since removed the page until I can write something better for it.
Once I started to think about it, it makes perfect sense. People are looking to connect on the web and it makes sense that they want to know more about the person behind the site.
I would be interested to see if anyone out there is doing something unique with their “about me” page.
Thanks, Rich
Yes people do like to know who they are dealing with. Think about Ebay.
When they started the ‘Me’ page it became a tool to help you relate with your customers. Definitely adds a human touch to a machine world.
Best Wishes to you,
Frank

Hi Michael…
Absolutely! I find that ‘about’ pages help make the sale as surely as customer raves do. People think traffic is hard to come by… but trust is even harder. ![]()
Michael,
I am totally guilty of this precise thing myself. I set up a nice blog recently to gather together all of my posts on marketing an put them on a more focused site. Then, I ran a special offer at the Warrior Forum and tons of people clicked through to my blog to — you guessed it — check out my About page.
Hopefully the quality of my content will convince them that the reason I haven’t filled out my about page is because I’m cranking out awesome posts
.
Fortunately, your content says volumes about you!
Andrew
Hi Michael
I’m a little late into this conversation - only by a few months - but the headline caught my attention! It was one of those “hafta read this post” moments LOL
The “About” page is the FIRST one you should create on ANY web site you build. If it’s missing, or just a half-hearted attempt, it says volumes about who you are NOT.
After all, it’s about establishing credibility… trust… all of that sort of stuff… and it you aren’t prepared to give a little bit of info about who you are, then I do have to ask “why should I believe you”…
But then again, I am a cynical, suspicious old bugger at times… so maybe that’s got a lot to do with it
Good site by the way.
Cheers
Stephen

Hi Michael,
Of course we want to know more about you. Even if we’ve been silently watching from the 1kaday forum, little things that you might mention about yourself, and your activities might be just the encouragement we need at that particular point in time.
Keep up the great work!
-Tim
PS. I guess I need to update my own blog (including an About Me page) since I’ve not done so in months! Much more to write soon…
