Hugging the Toilet and Mafioso Marketing

Last week an interesting thing happened.

I got a PM from JD Swanson on the Earn1KADay forum. Many of you may know JD for his Instant Cash Reports on the Warrior Forum. He is also a moderator on the Warrior Forum forum and goes by “tiesto”.

Anyway the PM asked if I would be interested in writing a chapter for his new eBook that he was calling “Mafioso Marketing”. Needless to say I was honored! JD is someone whom I have learned a lot from and was more than happy to participate in his project. There were two small problems though….

You see, JD informed me that he needed the chapter in 24 hours. The other problem was that I had been hugging a toilet most of the day because I was so sick.

It would have been very easy to say, “no” and return to my bowl hugging. But needless to say I didn’t. I was able to get the chapter written in about six hours. A little longer than normal, but not bad considering how terrible I felt.

The moral? None really. I got some great publicity, some subscribers, and made a few sales. The most important thing is that I was able to push aside excuses and take advantage of a HUGE opportunity.

We all have things come up that are obstacles to us achieving our goals. And many times those obstacles pick the worst time to show up. It’s how you react to them that will help determine your success.

And your excuses? Leave them where they belong….

In the toilet bowl.

Hi Michael,

Wow, your week sounds a lot like mine has been. LOL

By the way, I would love to review your new product coming out. :-)

Hope you are feeling better!

Thanks,

Scott Raven

Hey Michael,

Excellent post.

Similar thing happened to me recently when everything seemed to be piling on top of me. One opportunity presented itself among other things and in the past, I would have immediately dismissed it because I was simply too busy.

Instead, for some uncanny reason I decided to pay it a little more respect and analyzed what was really keeping me busy. Turns out, I was busy but not very productive and the new opportunity had way more potential than anything I was working on at the time.

So I ran with it and am happy to say I “pulled the right rein.” Sometimes you get into a routine and get stuck in it. It’s that old saying… Keep doing the same old things over and over and you’ll get the same old results.

Michael,

Great lesson. But how did you type and hug the bowl at the same time?? That’s multi-tasking to the max!

P.S. Love the new blog theme. Easy to use, functional, etc. How’s the BlogRush working out. I can’t wait to try it.

Mark

Way to go Michael, no pain no gain. It shows what can be done when you have enough incentive to avoid excuses.

It just goes to show you what can be accomplished when you make the decision to do something.

BTW, I see you’re using the Cleaker theme…I used it for awhile on one of my blogs. Pretty decent theme. One thing that you may want to do is edit the RSS links in your footer. They’re wrong, and one points to someone else’s blog. :)

Thanks for the info Darryl! I just started using the theme a few days ago and am still getting a few “kinks” out. :-)

Hi Michael! Thanks for the “heads up” on your blog. Great post, and a vivid reminder that you can only be stopped if you let yourself be stopped. It’s amazing what you can work through if you only put your mind to it.

Congrats for taking a chance and taking action! I’m so excited for your new product Michael! It’s been really motivating to see you take action on projects this summer and learn from your experiences. And if you still need reviewers, I’d love to help out with your project!

Great post Michael! As a stay at home mom, I know all about the need for multi-tasking and needing to do what you have to, in sometimes “less than perfect” conditions! And, I have to tell you that you really know how to write a headline!

Thanks for the inspiration. You certainly are to me. Nice to see you’ve turned the corner are doing fine after 6 longgg years.

Joe

Hi Michael,

What a great description of mind over matter! How you managed to spend 6 hours writing whilst being so ill I do not know.

But you showed sheer determination to complete a task that was in no way compulsary and many would have declined to even start.

This is a good example to those of us who let difficulties destroy our dreams instead of putting our strengths to work.

If you think you can, you can
If you think you can’t, you can’t

best wishes

Joe

Wow, Michael—I’m impressed!

I’ve been a fan of JD Swanson for awhile now. I sincerely hope I get a chance to read your chapter in his new book (the prelaunch videos alone have already been a big help).

Joe’s right about the power of thought. But I’m tossing the line about if you think you can’t . . . The subconscious only hears the you can’t part, not the big IF. I’m replacing it.

If JD Swanson says I can, I can . . .
Just see what Michael Gunn has done!

;-D

Wow, Michael.

You take action and you do it fast!
You inspired me to take action and I did!

Thanks.

Azlan

Wow I really need to get my hands on this book. :)

Michael,

I learned this lesson when my son died. No matter, what I still had to keep going and living my life. I still had to tend to my business.

Hi Michael.

You inspire me to take more action. I hope to get to read over your new book.
Great job on all of your recent success!

Jill

Michael, before I read your post I was really puzzled how you could link “hugging the toilet” and “Mafioso Marketing”.

It is really an intriguing title - great job at noticing how compelling it would be and using it. :)

Sabrina

It’s amazing what we can get done, when we want to. :) Nice blog! Am bookmarking now…

Sometimes you need to act fast, even if your stomach don’t want you to move a finger!

Life’s like that man.

Mafioso marketing is a great book. JD did a great work, and the style was killer.
