How I Turned $97 into $527

I know this headline sounds like I am selling something but I’m Not ;-),but the numbers are accurate and the headline is true.

Last meek I had SEVERAL projects on my plate. If you have read my Discussion Forum Fortunes report then I show you a way to get hundreds of ideas for products easily.

I have been working on getting a membership site up and last week I was just sitting down to work on the sales page site and make all the graphics. You have to understand something about me..

I LOVE making websites. I LOVE making the graphics. I LOVE putting it all together! And because I love it so much it takes me long
time to get things the way I like them.

In the past I have spent 3-4-6 months putting together JUST THE SITE. I never got around to silly things like CONTENT.

Well, I started to go through that same process last week, and after a couple of hours an “AH-HA” moment hit me. :-)

For some strange reason Dennis, JD, Nathan, Andrew, SteveG, SteveR, Courtney, and a dozen other of you were sitting in my living room
all LOOKING AT ME!

You see these are all people who are members at Earn1KADAY and we hold each other accountable.

After a few awkward moments Dennis, the owner of E1KAD, finally spoke up and said,

“Are You Getting Paid To Do That?”

“Paid to do do what?” was my reply.

“Paid to design that website that will take you 6 months to get it the way you like, but it still won’t have content, and you’ll quit
it soon afterward because you got bored with it and will move on to another project.”

“But I LOVE making websites!” I cried.

Dennis mumbled something about “Focus” under his breath. JD just shook his head, and Nathan fell asleep on the couch.

So I did something I had never done before. Something that made me sick in the stomach. Something that scared me to death…

I outsourced it.

That’s right. I paid a guy $97 to make all the graphics I needed and create the general site layout. I still want to vomit.

So what would I do with my free time?

Well, I wrote a report and recorded two videos and recored an audio reading of my product and put together a package and called it
“Discussion Forum Fortunes” Even the title of the report I outsourced by holding a contest for it!

The results are that in the first 36 hours since I put DFF out there I have netted $527.57 . This is profit that I would never have had because I would have spent my time playing with Photoshop.

I wanted you to read this to help REMIND ME and anyone else that wants to take such advice that:

1) In online an business we ONLY get paid when we provide a product or a service to someone.

2) FOCUS on the things that will make you $$. Pay or barter with someone else to do the rest. Even if it is something you enjoy doing yourself.

3) If taking certain steps to grow your business makes you nervous and sick to your stomach then it is a good bet that you’re doing
the RIGHT THING.

This is great information. I am also the one that likes “tweaking the knobs” instead of getting the product out the door.

Being a programmer by trade, it’s hard to step away from the fun stuff. But right now, I’m adopting a new mantra: during the day, I’m the outsourcee. At night time, I’m the outsourcer!

You mean I have to give up control?!?!? That’s the hardest part sometimes. Thanks for this post. As a person riddled with ADD focus is my biggest obstacle. But I love the way you put this. Thank you!

That is so true! Why labor over something that could be outsourced? You can do better things with your time, lik eoyu already proved.

The secret is to find the right person to outsource to. Maybe you can come up with a report on that ;)

It’s really hard, when working alone, at home, to do what you SHOULD DO instead of what you LIKE TO DO.

I am being constantly harassed by a lady {luckily she’s 12,000 miles away} who says I should be writing, not messing about building websites.

I’m sure her argument is valid because, when I write, I make money. When I build Websites I don’t.

But it IS fun - writing can be very boring, no matter how good (or bad) you are at it.

As long as the cat keeps bringing me home food, I’ll keep building websites.

I may write, just a little. LOL
