He Actually Sent This To Me!
I was notified the other day that I had a new comment to approve on my blog and so I went to check it out.
Now, I don’t know this individual, but below is his message in full and then I am going to comment on it below….
I have your videos on AWeber. I too thought they would convert.
I sent them to my list of a mere 700 (hit a brick wall 4 months ago and not one sign up since) but not one click. I’m not surprised - I’ve been emailing offers since October 07 and still have sales of $0 from the list.
The money is in the list - yeah, right - and pigs fly.
I have no idea what PLF2 is - some guru thing I guess.
I also have no idea what a product “launch”is. You build a page -upload it and hope someone will buy - that seems to be it.
Oh well - the rich do things a different way to us peasants.”
And now for my commentary. 
First of all, I haven’t decided if I’m going to approve the comment or not. The guy may have been having a bad day or real frustrated or whatever…
So let me start here when he says:

Well, 700 isn’t “mere”. It is very possible to make some good money with a list this size DEPENDING ON YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM. But if you have it in your head that it is a small list, then it will perform like a small list.
If you suddenly stopped getting optins 4 months ago, SOMETHING IS WRONG. Find out what the problem is and SOLVE IT. It might be as simple as your software stopped working.
Also, how did you obtain this list? Were they optins? Co-reg? Have you communicated with your list other than with offers? People don’t like to be treated like ATM’s!
Did the mailing even get to them? Who is your autoresponder system? Have they whitelisted themselves with all the major ISP’s? There could be lots of reasons here…

You’ve been emailing offers but have you been emailing USEFUL CONTENT?! If you’re “not surprised” then also remember this…WHATEVER YOU FOCUS ON GROWS!
I stated way back in January that my major focus was going to be list building. Every product I have made, every post I have made, every email I have sent has been with that goal in mind. Since then I have added 2,500 to my IM list in the past four months and I am not doing anything special.

It’s also about attitude. You attract what you think about!
My list is a group of amazing people! I seldom mail out an offer and when I do it is something that will help GROW their business not distract them. For this reason when I send out an offer it is no surprise that 17-20% make a purchase.
The money isn’t in the list! The money is in your RELATIONSHIP with your list. BIG DIFFERENCE!!

This is a sign of trouble. If you are going to be involved in a market then you need to be up to speed about the happenings of that market. Pet peeve of mine…

hmmm… The “If you build it, they will come” marketing hasn’t worked since ‘94. Maybe not even then. It requires WORK.

Yes, they do. That’s WHY they’re rich. But you know what else? The rich also THINK differently.
The author of Proverbs said it best in my favorite Bible verse: “As a man THINKS in his heart, SO IS HE”
Here is the part though that I want everyone reading this to understand:
Be honest with ourselves for a second… what this gentleman wrote IS NO DIFFERENT than what many of us say to OURSELVES everyday! He just had the courage to write it!
And it is this type of thinking that is one of the major causes for us not having the level of success that we want. It’s time to change that! If we are not getting the results we want, we have to change what we are doing!

If you are not making money online then try this..
Do ONE THING…TODAY that will DIRECTLY result in a deposit into your bank account. Anything else is just screwing around.
Quit giving yourself BS excuses! Everything you need to make $$ online is already on your hard drive.
Isn’t that why we’re here?

PS- Sorry about my rant. This is something I’m REALLY passionate about in case you can’t tell. I am seriously considering putting together a step by step course showing part-timers how to make 1-2 grand a month part time like I do, but I’m not sure yet. I honestly don’t know if people would be interested because its not “HOW TO MAKE 17 GAZILLION DOLLARS IN 3 MINUTES” kind of stuff.
Not sure….

Like Dennis, I feel sorry for the person because he so obviously doesn’t understand what he is trying to do.
Please allow him to see your comments because it will, hopefully, open his eyes.
Seems like he doesn’t have a complete grasp of relationship marketing. All the information is available to him and most of it for free, but he is responsible for learning his market. I think maybe he needs to study a little more and polish his people skills a little.
You can teach a skill that not everyone is able to learn. This just may not be something he can’t learn.
You share valuable information for which I am very grateful, not everyone will find it useful and not everyone will appreciate your efforts.
Such is life.

I’m not at all upset or concerned about the message. I get dozens of emails every week on both sides of the fence. I’m WAY past the point of worrying what others think.
The point I really want to make is that this gentleman wrote what many of us think now or have thought in the past.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to become successful with this mindset.
And whether you think it or write it, keep it to yourself or share with the world, THE RESULTS ARE THE SAME.
I give him kudos for expressing his frustration so vividly.

As you say “What you think about and focus on, comes about!” and it’s great to see that so many people know this and agree with you.
It’s funny that there’s always a “bitch quotient” when it comes to the hordes of IM practitioners who haven’t experienced any success with their niche of choice. I suspect that this disgruntled IM’er hasn’t even scratched the surface of the work needed t get up a technical enterprise that would successfully draw those in looking for what they had to sell. Did they master the basics of website creation and installation? Did they study the methods of intersecting people where they congregate and the things that they ASK for by the questions that they post which are just SCREAMING for solutions? I’ve been at it for the last 6 yrs (making sure that I had solid, offline sources of income), and I’m just starting to see some money come in, which only makes me work harder to get what I want. Go ahead, Frustrated, drop out and make more room for myself and others who are dedicated and as serious as cancer. Thanks!
A useful slap round the face for me and I suspect most of your readers! We can easily get a bit negative if we get crap results.
I got tremendous help by getting a mastermind buddy and I just shudder to think how little I would get done without that help. Another tremendous help is going to live events - you can meet fabulous people and get good techniques to follow.

This is my very first attempt at putting up a site,{still in development stage}I’m 58 years young and have procrastinated about doing it for around 3years believing it to be beyond me, I have learned so much by doing it, and from my mistakes.
The point being, as you said; and it’s more than likely we all know this,
“If we always do what we have always done, we will always get
what we have always got!”
This is soooooooooo true I am focusing on getting my very first site up there at last;

I agree with you 1000%, Michael, I don’t have a single disagreement with anything you said in this post.
I feel sorry for the frustrated person who wrote to you. Actually at one point in my IM career, I had the same experiences, but I never gave up. I figured out, through trial and error, what I was doing wrong with my list.
For example, it was a list of people that were attracted by freebies. It was a list partially built with co-reg. The autoresponder was hosted on my own server, so I had no idea if the emails were getting through to the recipients. There can be 1001 reasons that his list isn’t converting, and it sounds like it’s just like you say, he’s treating it like an ATM machine.
But how often should someone go to an ATM machine and have their transaction refused before they realize it isn’t the fault of the machine?
If you continue to do what you’ve always done, you’ll continue to get what you’ve always got.
Don’t let one person’s comments get you down, Michael, build that course, it won’t be for everyone, but it will help enough, and word will spread. $1000 to $2000 a month part time income is life changing for some people, it will pay a mortgage or send children to a better college, or lease a nice car, or enable a spouse to quit work and spend more time at home.
